A smoother forehead, a more rested look and an expression that still feels like you. If horizontal forehead lines draw attention away from your face, treatment does not have to aim for a motionless forehead. The goal is softer lines and a result that works with your brow position and the rest of your face.
At ESTERA, planning starts with an assessment at rest and during movement. Botox can soften expression lines; lines that remain at rest also call for an assessment of skin quality. Book a consultation to explore the approach that fits your forehead.
Forehead wrinkles at a glance
- Goal: softer horizontal lines and a natural, more rested appearance.
- Treatment choice: depends on expression, line depth, brow position and skin quality.
- Botox: temporarily reduces the activity of the treated muscle; it does not fill skin like a dermal filler.
- Results: develop over the following days and are usually assessed at around two weeks.
- Duration: temporary, often around 3-4 months, with individual variation.
- Price: see the current price list; the plan is agreed during consultation.
Why do forehead lines appear?
When you raise your eyebrows, the frontalis muscle folds the skin of your forehead. At first, lines mainly appear during movement. As skin elasticity changes, some lines remain visible when the face is relaxed. UV exposure also contributes to skin ageing, so daily care and sun protection have a place in the plan.
Not every upper-face wrinkle is the same
Dynamic lines become more noticeable when you raise your eyebrows. Static lines remain visible at rest. Both often occur on the same forehead.
Horizontal forehead lines differ from frown lines between the eyebrows. These areas are still assessed together: the muscles that raise and lower the eyebrows influence the balance of the upper face.
Forehead Botox: softer lines, without aiming to freeze your face
Botulinum toxin type A temporarily reduces the activity of the treated muscle, so the skin folds less during movement. The dose and injection pattern are tailored to anatomy, muscle strength and the agreed result. More product or a completely motionless forehead is not inherently a better result.
Brow position is an important part of the assessment, especially if your eyelids already feel heavy or you raise your eyebrows to open your eyes. Early changes may appear over the following days, with the result usually assessed at around two weeks. A deep line that has been visible at rest for a long time may not disappear completely after one treatment.
When should skin quality be addressed too?
If lines occur alongside dehydration, fine surface lines or uneven texture, the consultation may include skin boosters, biorevitalisation or an appropriate Fotona laser treatment. These are different approaches to skin quality, not substitutes for Botox’s action on muscle. The treatment area, protocol and sequence are chosen individually.
Hyaluronic acid fillers have a different role from Botox, but the forehead is not an area for routine filling of every deep line. Filler injections in this area carry vascular risks, including rare serious complications involving skin damage and vision loss. A deeper line is therefore not an automatic reason for filler: safety and other options come first.
What happens at the consultation and treatment?
We discuss what you want to change, assess your forehead and eyebrows at rest and during expression, and review previous treatments, medicines and medical history. Tell the clinician about any previous botulinum toxin treatment, including when it was given and which product was used, and about drooping eyelids, muscle weakness or neuromuscular conditions.
If Botox is suitable, the skin is cleaned and the product is injected with a fine needle at selected points. The injection procedure is brief; assessment and discussion are part of the appointment. You receive aftercare instructions and a follow-up plan based on the findings.
What should you expect afterwards?
Many patients resume usual activities the same day. Redness, tenderness or bruising can occur at injection sites. Headache, asymmetry or temporary drooping of the brow or eyelid can also occur. Careful planning reduces risks but does not remove them completely. Follow your instructions and contact the clinic if a change concerns you.
Elective treatment is postponed during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Infection at the injection site and known hypersensitivity mean treatment should not proceed. Certain conditions or medicines require further assessment. Seek immediate medical attention if you develop difficulty breathing, swallowing or speaking after treatment.
How much does forehead wrinkle treatment cost?
See the ESTERA price list. Whether one area or a wider upper-face plan is appropriate is discussed after assessment. You do not need to choose a product or number of units in advance: bring your goal and explore the options during consultation.
Frequently asked questions
When is the right time for forehead Botox?
When the lines bother you and assessment confirms treatment is appropriate. There is no single starting age, and preventive Botox is not a requirement. Expression, skin quality, brow position and expectations guide the decision.
Will I lose my facial expression?
The goal is to soften lines with a natural-looking result. How much movement remains depends on anatomy and the treatment plan; fully preserved expression or freedom from side effects cannot be guaranteed.
How long does the effect last?
Often around 3-4 months, but duration varies. Repeat treatment depends on returning muscle activity, your wishes and the instructions for the specific product, rather than one schedule for everyone.
Can deep lines disappear completely?
Not always. Botox can soften the muscle-related component. Lines that remain at rest also call for skin assessment; sometimes softening, rather than complete removal, is the realistic goal.
Does treatment hurt?
Injections can cause brief stinging and tenderness. Pain perception varies; tell the clinician if you are particularly sensitive.
Can creams replace Botox?
Moisturising care and sun protection support skin quality. Retinoids may help some people with fine lines, but need to be chosen for the skin and should not be used during pregnancy. Creams do not act on facial movement like botulinum toxin.
Is filler the answer for a deep forehead line?
Not automatically. Vascular risks make the forehead an area requiring particular assessment, and other options may be considered. The decision follows examination and a discussion of benefits and risks.
