Forehead Wrinkles

Srpska verzija

Forehead wrinkles at a glance

  • What they are: horizontal lines on the forehead caused by repeated raising of the eyebrows and the gradual loss of collagen and elastin
  • Types: dynamic lines (visible only with movement) and static lines (visible at rest) – the type determines the treatment
  • First-line treatment: botox relaxes the frontalis muscle and softens horizontal lines while preserving natural expression
  • Complementary treatments: hyaluronic fillers for deep static lines, biorevitalisation and laser rejuvenation for skin quality
  • Duration: botox results last 3-4 months; regular repetition keeps the lines shallower

How do forehead lines form?

The forehead is one of the first regions to show lines, for two reasons. The first is expression – the frontalis muscle, which raises the eyebrows, creases the forehead skin thousands of times a day. The second is ageing – as collagen and elastin production declines, the skin becomes thinner and less elastic, so creases turn into permanent grooves. The forehead is also directly exposed to UV radiation, which accelerates the loss of firmness.

Dynamic and static lines

Dynamic lines appear only with movement – when you raise your eyebrows or look surprised. Over time, in most people after their thirties, they turn static: visible even when the face is fully relaxed. This distinction determines the treatment – dynamic lines respond best to botox, while deep static lines often need a combination with fillers or skin-quality treatments.

Botox treatment

Botox relaxes the frontalis muscle and reduces its contraction, so the forehead skin creases less and the lines soften. The dose is chosen carefully: the goal is to soften the lines while keeping natural eyebrow movement – too strong a dose can drop the brows and give a heavy look to the upper face. The treatment takes a few minutes, with no downtime, and the full effect is visible after about two weeks.

Complementary treatments

For deeper static lines, hyaluronic fillers can fill the groove that remains visible at rest. For the quality of the forehead skin – thickness, hydration and tone – biorevitalisation and laser rejuvenation are used, especially when lines are combined with sun damage. The combination is defined at the examination, according to the type of lines and the condition of the skin.

Frequently asked questions

When should I start botox for the forehead?

When the lines begin to stay visible at rest, or earlier as prevention in pronounced expression. In younger people with strong forehead movement, smaller doses („baby botox“) can slow the deepening of lines.

Will I look „expressionless“?

Not if the dose is properly measured. The goal is a relaxed forehead with preserved brow movement – an excessive dose is an avoidable mistake, not the rule.

How long does the result last?

Usually 3-4 months. With regular repetition the muscle partly „unlearns“ the creasing, so the intervals lengthen for some patients.

Can creams remove forehead lines?

Creams improve skin quality and hydration and can soften the finest lines, but they cannot remove lines formed by muscle movement – that is where botox and fillers act.
