Why is care after microneedling and peels special?
Both microneedling and chemical peels work in a controlled way: micro-channels or the removal of surface layers trigger skin renewal. That renewal phase is what delivers the result – but the skin is then more open, more sensitive and more prone to irritation and pigmentation. Care in this period is not a cosmetic detail but part of the treatment itself.
That is why only products safe for compromised skin are used during healing: sterile formulas without fragrance and potential irritants, while regular skincare – especially active ingredients – is paused.
Care by recovery phase
Phase one (0-72 hours): the skin is open and reactive. Only sterile, soothing serums and repair creams are used; no makeup, no touching the face, no sweating or sun exposure. The face is not washed on the first day, then cleansed very gently.
Phase two (3-7 days): the skin closes and may peel. Generous hydration and barrier-repair products help the peeling pass evenly – flakes are never picked off by hand. SPF is applied every day.
Phase three (after day 7): the skin is closed but still more sensitive to the sun. Hydration and strict SPF protection continue for at least 6-8 weeks; active ingredients return gradually, as agreed.
Sun protection during the renewal phase
Skin renewing itself after microneedling or a peel is at its most sun-sensitive – UV exposure in this period is the most common cause of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation that can overshadow the treatment result.
Therefore: SPF 50 every day as soon as the skin closes (with mechanical protection in the first days – a hat and shade), reapplication every 2-3 hours when outdoors, and avoidance of direct sun and tanning beds for at least 6-8 weeks. Protection does not stop on cloudy days, as UVA passes through clouds.
The most common mistakes
- Returning to active ingredients too soon – retinoids and acids on unhealed skin cause irritation and can spoil the result.
- Insufficient sun protection – the main cause of hyperpigmentation after peels and microneedling.
- Picking off flakes – increases the risk of scarring and uneven tone.
- Regular skincare in phase one – fragrances, preservatives and actives in standard products are not meant for open skin; formulas designed for the renewal phase, such as the CELL-DMX line, are used instead.
Frequently asked questions about care after microneedling and peels
When can I apply makeup after microneedling or a peel?
Once the skin closes – usually 24-72 hours after the treatment. Makeup is avoided while redness and openness persist.
How long must I avoid the sun?
Strict SPF protection is recommended for at least 6-8 weeks after peels and microneedling, as the skin is more prone to hyperpigmentation in this period.
Which products should I use in the first days?
Only sterile, soothing formulas without fragrance and irritants, as recommended after the treatment – professional lines like CELL-DMX are designed precisely for skin in the renewal phase.
