Tartar removal and tooth polishing

Not much effort is needed for the feeling of perfectly smooth teeth with a flawless texture and colour. All that is required to make your teeth and gums healthy and your breath pleasant and fresh is impeccable oral hygiene, which prevents the build-up of tartar and soft deposits, inflammation and bleeding of the gums, and loosening and loss of teeth. Even with regular care of the mouth and teeth, tartar can appear, and it is not only an unwanted aesthetic issue but a functional one too. It consists of extremely hard, whitish-yellowish deposits that form when dental plaque mineralises and most often becomes fixed to the inner side of the lower front teeth and the outer side of the upper molars, because of the proximity of the openings of the major salivary gland ducts. Saliva with a higher mineral concentration, its increased acidity, soft and sticky food rich in carbohydrates, swollen gums that have receded for various reasons, improperly filled teeth, inadequate prosthetic work, but also congenital anomalies such as overcrowded teeth whose maintenance is a major problem – all of these can trigger the formation of tartar.

It is a misconception that tartar occurs only in smokers, because it does not spare those who successfully resist nicotine either. Tobacco, but also coffee, dark teas and other coloured drinks, affect the pigmentation of teeth, so any existing tartar will certainly be more visible. Since it contains many bacteria, it inevitably causes caries and gum inflammation, and in the long term periodontal disease can also develop. The possibility of dark concrements forming on the tooth root, which are harder to remove than tartar, should not be disregarded either.

In these cases, a visit to the doctor is necessary. The „Estera“ dental practice is the right place for you because it offers ultrasonic tartar cleaning – a safe, effective and painless way to let your gums „breathe“ again. This procedure involves treating the existing condition with a combination of pressurised water and oscillations that make the working part of the instrument vibrate. Free your teeth of the „excess“ with our specialists, who have many years of experience in dentistry. They will advise you how often the intervention should be repeated and recommend that the teeth are also polished and soft deposits removed with special brushes and fluoride-based abrasive pastes. With a check-up every 6 months, tartar build-up can be prevented in time. Your teeth will always have a fine texture, an attractive colour and the whiteness we all strive for, and an added benefit is the elimination of bad breath. This is also the ideal preparation for teeth whitening, which will make your smile irresistible.

Immediately after the intervention, temporary sensitivity is possible. Because tartar has pressed on the gums over a long period, they recede abruptly after the treatment, exposing the necks of the teeth. Exposed necks are quite sensitive, since that part of the tooth is not covered by enamel, the tooth’s strongest barrier. Avoid cold meals and drinks that can trigger sensations, brush your teeth regularly, and use interdental brushes, dental floss and special solutions for soothing the gums.
