Fissures are the natural grooves on the chewing surface of molars where food and bacteria lodge even in children who brush well. Fissure sealing closes those grooves with a protective material — no drilling, no anaesthetic, no pain. It takes a few minutes per tooth and protects it through the years when decay is most common.
When is it done? Best soon after the permanent molars erupt — around age 6 for the first and around age 12 for the second molars. Baby teeth can be sealed too in children prone to decay.
What does the visit look like? The tooth is cleaned and dried, the fissures are prepared with a mild gel, then the liquid sealant is applied and set with a curing light. Your child eats and drinks normally straight away. At check-ups we verify the seal is intact and top it up if needed.
Why ESTERA? We see children from age 3, at the child’s pace — getting to know the chair and the team first, then the examination and treatment. A parent stays with the child throughout. Our children’s dentistry team works at Bokeljska 7, Vračar, a few minutes from Slavija square.

Frequently asked questions
Does fissure sealing hurt?
No. No drilling, no anaesthetic — most children experience it as a strange but pleasant „tooth painting“.
How long does a sealant last?
Years, with regular check-ups. We inspect it at every visit and repair it if needed.
Can a sealed tooth still decay?
The risk is much lower, but sealing does not replace brushing and check-ups.
From what age do you see children?
From age 3 — fluoride, fissure sealing, fillings and baby-tooth extraction.
