Bleeding when brushing, receding gums, bad breath, teeth that look „longer“ — these are signs of periodontitis, a disease that gradually destroys the support of the tooth. The good news: caught in time, periodontitis can be stopped and teeth kept. The bad news: it never goes away on its own — every month of waiting does damage that does not come back.
What are periodontal pockets? Space that opens when the gum detaches from the tooth and bacteria sink deep along the root. Inside a pocket, tartar and bacteria cannot be brushed away — that is why pockets are treated at the practice.
How treatment works here: first a detailed examination and measurement of the pocket depth of every tooth. Then deep cleaning (scaling and root planing) — removing tartar and diseased tissue from the pockets, under anaesthetic, without pain. Where needed, sandblasting and polishing follow, with a re-measurement after 4–6 weeks. For advanced cases we plan the next steps together with you — no surprises, no hidden costs.
How long does it take? Usually 2–3 visits for the initial therapy, then maintenance every 3–6 months. Success is a team effort: we do the deep cleaning, and you get exact instructions for keeping the result at home.
Price: depends on the number of teeth involved — exact prices are in our dental price list, and at the first visit you receive a plan and a price up front.
Frequently asked questions
Does bleeding gum mean periodontitis?
Most often it is the start (gingivitis or periodontitis). Bleeding gums are not normal — they are a reason for a check-up, not for a harder brush.
Does pocket treatment hurt?
It is done under anaesthetic, so no. Temporary tooth sensitivity for a few days is possible afterwards.
Can periodontitis be cured?
It can be stopped and kept under control. Lost bone does not return by itself, which is why early diagnosis is the most valuable step.
How often are maintenance visits?
Usually every 3–6 months, guided by pocket measurements.
