Nasolabial Folds

Nasolabial wrinkles

Why they are formed and how they are treated naturally

Nasolabial folds extend from the nose to the corners of the lips. They are a normal part of the anatomy and facial expression, and become more pronounced when smiling. With age they can deepen due to skin changes, fatty compartments, bone support and the position of the middle third of the face. The goal of the treatment is not to completely erase the fold, but to alleviate the weight and shadow while preserving the natural smile.

Direct filling of the line itself is not always the best solution. When the main cause is loss of support in the zygomatic or middle third, the plan can start there. When thin skin and surface lines dominate, the quality of the skin can be more important than the volume. A full-face overview therefore precedes the choice of product and the point of application.

Nasolabial wrinkles in short

  • What are: natural folds between the nose and the corners of the lips that can become deeper and more visible.
  • Why they arise: anatomy, mimicry, loss of support from the middle third, skin changes, sun, genetics and weight changes.
  • Possible treatments: Hyaluronic filler in the selected plane, cheekbone/middle third support, skin quality treatments and a combined plan.
  • Objective: softening of the shadow and transitions, not completely wiping the natural fold.
  • Result: individual; depends on the cause, anatomy, product and scope of correction.
  • Price: depends on the plan and the amount of the preparation; it is confirmed after examination.

How does the nasolabial fold form?

The fold is not only a „wrinkle in the skin“. Its appearance is determined by the connection of the skin with deeper structures next to the nose, muscle movement at smile, cheek volume, bone support and skin quality. Over time, the middle third can lose or change support, so the tissue is distributed differently according to the fold and strengthens the shadow.

Sun, smoking and weight changes can contribute to a decrease in elasticity, but a deep fold does not arise just because the skin is dry. Because of this, the cream can improve the hydration of the surface, but does not change the deeper anatomical support.

When is the fold treated, and when the cheekbones?

If the fold is locally deep and the support of the middle third is good, a small amount may be considered Hyaluronic Filler If the descent or loss of cheek support significantly increases the fold, then the direct addition of a larger amount to the line can make the lower part of the face difficult. Support for cheekbones and middle thirds.

This does not mean that the cheekbones are automatically filled. Someone needs only discreet direct correction, someone needs structural support, and someone needs none. The plan is chosen according to the ratio of the nose, cheek, lips and chin, and is observed at rest and at smile.

Hyaluronic filler

A hyaluronic filler can reduce a sharp shadow and alleviate the transition when properly indicated. The choice of rheology, quantity and plane depends on anatomy. Too many products can create a heavy, swollen or unnatural appearance and should not be used to completely level the normal moving line.

The effect is temporary. The duration differs according to the preparation, region, tissue motility and individual metabolism. Control is more important than the pre-promised amount or number of syringes.

Skin quality treatments

Skin boosters, PolynucleotidesBiorevitalization and MicroNeedling can improve hydration, elasticity and fine surface lines. They do not compensate for a significant loss of structural support and do not erase the deep fold, but can contribute to better quality of surrounding skin.

Collagen stimulators can play a role in the broader plan when the loss of firmness is dominant. They do not automatically apply directly to each fold and the result develops gradually.

Botox or filler?

Botulinum toxin is not a standard way of directly “wiping” the nasolabial fold, because the muscles around the lips participate in smile and function. Inadequate weakening can change the smile. Filler and skin quality treatments have different goals. Read more about the difference in the guide Botox or Hyaluronic Filler.

What does the treatment look like?

  1. >>srp_Latn<< Assessment: The face is viewed from the front, from the profile, at rest and at smile.
  2. Plan: determines whether the goal is the fold itself, the support of the middle third or the quality of the skin.
  3. Preparation: Checks are made of medicines, previous fillers, herpes, allergies and other contraindications.
  4. Application: the selected preparation is introduced with a needle or cannula into the planned plane.
  5. Control: The final result is not evaluated until the initial island is settled.

Recovery and Unwanted Effects

Redness, sensitivity, swelling and bruising are possible and usually transient. Asymmetry or unevenness may require control. Rare but serious complications include vascular occlusion, or compromised blood flow. Strong or growing pain, pale or networked skin colour change, cold skin or change of vision require immediate contact with the clinic.

The nasolabial region is anatomically important. That is why the treatment must be carried out by a medical specialist who knows anatomy, recognizes complications and has an emergency care plan. Read more in the expert text on Vascular occlusion.

Who is not a candidate?

Treatment is delayed with active infection, inflammation or herpes in the region. Pregnancy and lactation, earlier serious reactions to preparations, coagulation disorders, therapies that increase bleeding and autoimmune or other health conditions require individual assessment. The presence of an earlier filler, especially of an unknown type, must be reported.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the nasolabial wrinkles be completely removed?

Complete erasure is not the goal, because the fold is part of normal anatomy and smiles. Treatment can alleviate depth and shadow while preserving natural movement.

Is the filler injected directly into the boron?

Sometimes, in a small amount and the right plane. If the middle third does not have support, a better plan can include its assessment instead of filling the entire line.

How many fillers do you need?

Quantity depends on cause, anatomy and goal; predefined number of syringes is not a good replacement plan for assessment.

How long does the result last?

The effect is temporary and differs according to the preparation, region and individual response. The exact duration cannot be guaranteed.

Does the treatment hurt?

Pressure, burning or short discomfort are possible. The preparation often contains a local anesthetic, and additional comfort control is selected individually.

Will I look swollen or unnatural?

The initial island is possible. The natural result depends on the conservative amount and treatment of the cause, not on the attempt to align the fold completely.

Can the hyaluronic filler be broken down?

Hyaluronic filler can be broken down by hyaluronidase when there is a medical or aesthetic need. It is a medical procedure with its own risks and is not done routinely without assessment.

Does a skin booster solve nasolabial wrinkles?

It can improve hydration and fine lines, but does not compensate for a significant loss of support or even out deep folds. It plays a different role than a structural filler.
