Enlarged pores at a glance
- The concern: visible openings of the sebaceous glands, most often on the nose, cheeks and forehead, which give the skin an uneven, „pitted“ texture
- Most common causes: inherited pore size and increased sebum production, loss of skin elasticity around the pores, accumulated impurities and sun damage
- Treatments at ESTERA: chemical peels, microneedling, biorevitalisation and mesotherapy, laser protocols
- Important: pores cannot be „closed“ for ever – but their visibility can be significantly reduced by firming the skin and regulating oiliness

Why are pores visible?
Pores are the natural outlets of the sebaceous glands, and every skin has them. What makes them visible is a combination of factors: hereditarily larger pores and oilier skin, the clogging of their openings with sebum and impurities, and – often overlooked – a loss of skin elasticity. When the skin around a pore slackens, the opening widens and looks larger. That is why pores often „worsen“ with age or after stronger sun exposure, even though their number has not changed.
Which treatments help?
- Chemical peels – remove the surface layer and the build-up around pore openings, smooth the texture and help regulate oiliness;
- Microneedling – by stimulating collagen it firms the skin around the pores, so they appear smaller;
- Biorevitalisation and mesotherapy – deep hydration and revitalisation that tightens texture and reduces the visibility of pores;
- Laser protocols – for smoothing texture and evening out the skin’s surface.
What does a treatment plan look like?
The plan depends on whether oiliness and congestion dominate, or lax skin. Most often a course of peels or microneedling is combined with tailored home care, with a realistic goal: less noticeable pores and a more even texture – not the „invisible“ skin promised by photo filters.
Frequently asked questions about enlarged pores
Can pores be closed for ever?
No – pores are a natural part of the skin and cannot disappear. But their visibility can be significantly reduced by firming the skin, regulating oiliness and proper care.
Why are my pores more visible with age?
Because the skin loses elasticity: slackened skin around a pore opening looks wider. Treatments that firm the skin, such as microneedling or biorevitalisation, therefore often give good results.
What is the best treatment for enlarged pores?
It depends on the cause: for oily, congested skin, peels help most, while for more lax skin, collagen-building treatments such as microneedling help. They are often combined.
Is the result visible straight away?
After a peel the skin looks smoother within a few days, while the firming effect builds over weeks and months across a course of treatments.
