Microtox (meso-botox): tighter pores, less shine, smoother skin – without a „frozen“ face
Enlarged pores, oily shine and uneven texture stubbornly resisting your creams? Microtox is a technique in which highly diluted botulinum toxin is placed in tiny droplets into the skin surface rather than the muscle, so it works on the quality of the skin itself while expression stays natural. At ESTERA in Belgrade we assess whether this is the right choice for your skin, or whether another treatment would serve you better.

Microtox at a glance
- What you get: tighter-looking pores, less oily shine, finer lines and more even texture.
- How it works: highly diluted botulinum toxin in micro-droplets acts within the skin, on the sweat and oil glands and the finest muscle attachments, not on the expression muscles.
- Where: T-zone, cheeks, lower face, neck and décolleté, as assessed.
- Result: develops over 1 to 2 weeks; duration is individual, most often 2 to 4 months.
- Price: see the price list; the plan is confirmed at the examination.
What is microtox?
Microtox (also called meso-botox, microbotox or intradermal botox) is a technique in which botulinum toxin is diluted more than for classic use and placed as a series of tiny droplets into the dermis, the skin itself. The goal is not to relax the muscles of expression but to change the skin: calmer oil and sweat glands, finer pores and a smoother, more elastic texture.
How is it different from classic botox?
Classic botox targets the muscles that create expression lines – forehead, glabella, crow’s feet – and deliberately reduces their movement. Microtox goes shallower and wider: the points are in the skin, the doses are micro, so facial movement is preserved. That makes it a good choice for people who want „better skin“ but fear a frozen look.
Which effects are realistic?
The most common reasons for microtox:
- Enlarged pores – in a split-face study, intradermal micro-botox significantly reduced pore width compared with the control side.
- Oily shine and sebum – calming the sebaceous glands reduces shine; a 2025 systematic review confirms the skin-quality effect.
- Fine lines and texture – skin looks smoother and more elastic, especially on the lower face and neck.
Microtox does not remove deep expression lines and does not change facial volume – for that there are classic botox and hyaluronic fillers. The assessment decides what your skin actually needs.
What is the treatment like?
After a consultation and assessment of your skin, the area is cleansed and a numbing cream applied if needed. The diluted product is placed in a series of small injections spread across the zone – for example over the T-zone, the cheek region or the neck. The treatment takes about 20 to 30 minutes; the tiny marks and mild redness usually settle by the next day.
Results and duration
Reduced shine is often noticed within the first week, while pore and texture changes are assessed after 2 to 4 weeks. The effect is temporary, usually 2 to 4 months, so repeat sessions are planned according to your skin’s response – often 2 to 3 times a year.
What does it combine with?
Microtox fits well into a skin-quality plan:
- Microneedling – in a same-face comparison, micro-botox and microneedling each significantly narrowed pores, and combining the techniques is common in practice.
- Skin boosters and mesotherapy – for hydration and glow alongside the pore and sebum effect.
- Polynucleotides – when the goal is repair of thin, delicate skin.
The order is set according to your skin’s condition and the treatment calendar.
Safety and side effects
The most common effects are temporary: pinpoint bruising, redness or mild swelling at the injection points. Because the product is placed shallowly and spread out, the risk of changing facial expression is small, but it exists – so the lower face is treated cautiously and conservatively. The treatment is not performed during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with neuromuscular disorders, active skin infection or hypersensitivity to ingredients. At the consultation we check your medication and previous treatments.
How much does it cost?
The price depends on the number of zones and the amount of product needed. See the ESTERA price list for the framework; the exact plan is confirmed at the examination, before treatment.
Frequently asked questions
Will my face be frozen?
No – microtox does not target the expression muscles but the skin. Movement is preserved; texture, pores and shine change.
When will I see results?
Less shine often within the first week; pores and texture are assessed after 2 to 4 weeks.
How long does the effect last?
Individually, most often 2 to 4 months. Repeat sessions are planned according to your skin’s response.
Can it be done on the neck and décolleté?
Yes – these are common microtox zones alongside the face. We assess at the examination.
