When hair starts thinning, the goal is to preserve what you have and improve fullness where possible. PRP uses plasma prepared from your blood and may be part of a plan for selected types of thinning. Start with an assessment of the cause, rather than an automatic course of injections.
Who might benefit?
Most clinical research concerns androgenetic alopecia, or hereditary thinning. Suitability depends on diagnosis and starting condition. Bald patches or active scalp disease require their own assessment, rather than a protocol borrowed from hereditary hair loss.
What does the evidence show?
Research suggests PRP may help hair density. A 2024 review of randomized trials found possible added benefit with minoxidil, but evidence certainty was low to very low. That supports discussing an option, not promising everyone the same result.
What happens during treatment?
Blood is drawn, plasma is prepared by centrifugation, and fine needles deliver it to selected scalp areas. Comfort measures, treatment area and appointment length are agreed at consultation. PRP does not transplant new follicles.
A course and possible combinations
Sessions, intervals and possible maintenance are individualized. Treatment for the underlying cause does not stop simply because PRP is added. Existing Fotona or mesotherapy protocols may also be discussed, but a combination is not automatically better and needs a clear purpose.
Preparation and medical review
Tell the doctor about blood disorders, bleeding problems, infection and all medicines and supplements. Do not stop prescribed treatment, including medicines affecting clotting, without medical advice. Active infection or an unsuitable health condition may mean postponing treatment.
Care after injections
Pain, tenderness, redness, pinpoint bleeding or swelling can occur. Washing and product instructions follow your scalp condition. Do not introduce harsh products on your own. Marked or increasing pain, swelling or signs of infection need medical attention.
Thinning eyebrows need a separate assessment
Mention eyebrow loss at consultation. Its cause and treatment plan need separate assessment; scalp PRP studies do not establish the same benefit for eyebrows. This page does not promise an eyebrow procedure.

Frequently asked questions
Does PRP replace minoxidil?
Not automatically. It may be considered as an addition for a suitable diagnosis; a doctor decides the treatment plan.
Is PRP completely painless?
Injections can be uncomfortable. Comfort measures are discussed before treatment.
When do we assess results?
Over months, with follow-up and comparable photographs. Sessions and maintenance are not identical for everyone.
